为极为稀见的清末上海租界区跑马场的四联张全景照片，摄影师站在跑马场的楼上，整个跑马场的景色在照片中一览无余，照片为原地晒印，清晰度佳，品相完好。赛马会是19世纪在沪外国人的重要活动。上海赛马场最早建于1850年，曾三易其地，1861年在今西藏中路、南京西路、黄陂南路、武胜路围起的区域修建了第三代跑马场。每到赛马会，跑马场都变得热闹非凡，无论男女，都会盛装出席，从这张照片可见一斑。1949年后，上海跑马场被改建为人民广场和人民公园、上海美术馆、上海市政府、上海博物馆等。
