Johannes Schutz St. Moritz.Size: 25 inches (h) x 33 inches (w) only canvas. 35 inches (h) x 43 inches (w) FRAMED. Willem Johannes Schütz was born in 1854 in Middelburg and received his first painting lessons from his father, the marine painter J.F. Schütz. In choosing his subjects he continued the family tradition. His early work from the late eighties is in style of the elaborate sea-and river views of his father. Since then his work developed more into the Hague School style. He is therefore counted to the 'nabloei' of the Hague School, together with Tholen, The Bock and Willem de Zwart. Remarkable is the concern that Schütz spent to the appearance of light effects. After 1910, his palette lightened under the influence of the luminism.
