Meiji era (1868-1912), late 19th/early 20th centuryThe first a woodsman seated at rest on a large rotten fallen tree trunk, looking to the right as a monkey with a persimmon fruit hides in the hollowed wood, holding a pipe with one hand and a tobacco pouch with the other, a large felling axe at his side, signed beneath Ryuun, 24.6cm (9 3/4in) wide; the second a mask maker seated cross-legged, leaning against a cabinet and smiling at the Okame mask he holds with one hand, unsigned, 9.5cm (3 3/4in) wide.
