|This lithograph appeared in the January 7, 1894 issue of the avant-garde magazine L'Escaramouche. Although it only lasted for three months, it attracted some of the most important artists of the day. Lautrec has chosen to depict a dancing couple celebrating the recent 1894 military alliance of France and Russia, which became an occasion for all the bars in Paris to hold galas and special revues. The couple also appears in another Lautrec print Une Redoubte au Moulin Rouge, (The Gala at the Moulin Rouge) 1893.
