|Cuvier's work was the "most influential exposition of the typological approach to animal classification, representing the greatest body of zoological facts that had yet been assembled" (Norman). This third edition, referred to as the "Disciples Edition" as it was edited and arranged by Cuvier's pupils, originally appeared in 262 livraisons.
