Seifu Yohei IV (1872-1951): A Porcelain Chawan, of deep, circular form decorated in underglaze blue with a continuous landscape above above a moulded, median ridge beneath which are Shonzui style motifs, impressed seal to the base Seifu, diameter 10.8cms, height 6.5cms; with wood storage box bearing a descriptive hakogaki and with furoshiki bearing stamped Seifu seal. That this vessel was specifically designed as a Chawan and not just as a small bowl. This is substantiated not only by the hakogaki, but by the way in which the glaze to the well is modelled and sculpted in a manner calculated to create the necessary hydro-dynamics to produce a rich and thorough infusion of the tea.
