“如意”一词出于梵语“阿娜律”，是自印度传入的佛具之一，柄端作“心”形，用竹、骨、铜、玉制作，法师讲经时，常手持如意一柄，记经文于上，以备遗忘。后演化为文人高士尚古风气下的文房雅玩。至清代更被视为吉祥瑞物，成为皇家御用之品。宝座旁、寝殿中均摆有如意，以示吉祥、顺心。“如意”历来多以大件出现，多为陈设之用，作为把玩雅赏的小件并不多见，而此件如意的最大特点却是精巧、雅致，由碧玉雕就，料细润，工精美，颜色尤为鲜阳老辣，是件料、工、形、意俱佳的文房小品。张静：扬州工艺美术大师
