明王朝建立以后，由于皇室的喜爱及对外赏赐的需要等原因，剔红漆器得到了较快发展。各类文房器具增多。此件毛笔剔红满工而作，笔帽及笔杆尾端阴刻花朵纹。笔帽身啄三多果纹，果实饱满，枝叶丰茂。笔杆主体雕刻牡丹花卉。通体花朵繁盛，竞相争艳，生趣盎然。花叶映衬得体，层次丰富明朗，形态各异。整件堆漆丰厚，乃小中见大之器。
