|砚呈长方形，砚堂平整。砚边以错银工艺饰卷草纹，贴合均匀，丝丝入理，做工考究。砚盖采用浮雕镶嵌技法，以螺钿、玛瑙等珍贵材料作梅枝傲春图。梅花朵朵，姿态各异，显现出典雅清丽之韵，颇具匠心。清代扬州漆器以百宝嵌为著名品种，钱泳《履园丛话》：“周制之法，惟扬州有之。明末有周姓者，始创此法，故名周制。”其法以百宝嵌于檀、梨、漆器之上，大而屏、桌，小则砚匣、书箱。此砚用料珍贵，制作精良，包浆亮润，嵌饰色彩斑斓，精工细作，雅致小巧，盈手可握，文人气息浓郁，当为古时文人雅集随身之物，实不可多得之佳作。
