John Willis Good, British (1845-1879:A bronze equestrian model of a saddled horse
on oval naturalistic base, signed J. Willis Good, dark black brown patination, 39cm high
|John Willis Good was talented English animalier sculptor who can be compared to the French masters of the animalier school. During his short but prolific career he mainly concentrated on studies of hunting scenes, dogs and racehorses, producing them in bronze and terracotta. He exhibited sixteen works at the Royal Academy from 1870 to 1878 and Elkington & Co cast many of his pieces, many of which were silvered in addition to the more usual patinated finish favoured by the French animaliers.
