A Kamasan cloth painting of a thirty five-day calendar (tabing plintangan) Bali, late 19th Century
of rectangular form, decorated in polychrome pigments, a design of forty five squares, with thirty five squares depicting various figures, animals, sea creatures, demons and mythical beasts, each with a sun burst medallion, the remaining outer squares on three sides each depicting gods and further figures 190 x 127 cm.
|ProvenancePrivate Italian collectionFormerly in the collection of Nasli Heeramaneck and thence by descentNasli Heeramaneck (1902-1971) was a Parsi-American collector and dealer who specialised in Asian and European art and antiques. Born in Mumbai, he moved to Paris in the late 1920s and later settled in New York. He had a large collection of bronzes from Luristan, one of which was sold to the British Museum. Other works collected by him and his wife, Alice, are held by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
