|ProvenanceAnon. sale, Bonhams, London, 21 March 2000, lot 185.S.S. Monarch of Bermuda was constructed by Vickers-Armstrong Shipbuilders in 1931 for the Furness Bermuda Line. Initially designed as a luxury cruise liner to transport tourists between New York and Bermuda, she would later serve as a troop ship during the Second World War before being sold to the British Government in 1947 to transport immigrants to Australia under the title S.S. New Australia. Finally, she was sold to the Greek Line in 1958 for commercial use until being scrapped in 1966.
