ϒA pair of Indian ivory veneered turned wood boxes and covers in Mughal taste, late 19th century, probably Gujarat, of cylindrical form with panels of overlying and geometric ivory applied each with a metal pin, the domed covers with peacock and peahen finials; the undersides with conforming ivory panels, 13cm high, 11cm diameter CATALOGUE NOTE: The manner in which the individual ivory panels are applied is more usually seen in mother-of-pearl worked items from 17th century Gujarat, but the shapes of the panels and the production technique is highly comparable ϒ Indicates that this lot may be subject to CITES regulations when exported.
