An enameled and faux bois decorated porcelain 'figural' snuff bottle


Imperial, Qianlong mark and of the period, 1736-1795The shield-form bottle with a wide mouth, thin rounded lip, each main side with a conforming, gilt-outlined reserve, one framing two figures conversing in a terrace, and the third figure possibly depicted as Liu Hai holding a stick and a toad, the verso painted with a scholar and a young boy in a garden, with a faux bois pattern on the narrow sides and surrounding the neck, the underside inscribed with the four-character mark in iron red seal script. 2 1/8in (5.4cm) high
