A LARGE CLUTHA GLASS BOTTLE VASE BY JAMES COUPER & SONS, circa 1890, designed by Dr Christopher Dresser (Scottish, 1834-1904), with an elongated neck and bulbous body, the green glass with numerous small bubbles and aventurine inclusions, 38cm high
FOOTNOTES:The design contributions of Dr. Christopher Dresser, named 'Clutha' after the River Clyde, and produced by James Couper after 1888. The designs are inspired by Roman and Near Eastern forms. A vase of identical form in the John Scott Collection is illustrated by The Fine Art Society, 'Truth, Beauty, Power', vol.5, cat.181.
