Matthias Scheits (Germany, 1640 - 1700) Lot & His Daughters. Christie's label verso. Sight Size: 17 x 20.75 in. Overall Size: 22 x 25.5 in. Oil on board. Scheits studied under Philipps Wouwerman in Holland but was influenced by Adriaen van Ostade and David Teniers the Younger as well. Working as an illustrator, he is especially known for the ?Scheits'sche Bibel? ? a bible printed in L?neburg in 1672. He created 152 drawings for this bible used as templates for the etchings. Nowadays most of his works can be found in the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
