DOUBLE DUTY MARK:-A George III wine funnel with a gadrooned rim and a shell tang, crested, by John Langlands (II), Newcastle 1797; 6" (15.5 cms) long; *When the duty on silver doubled in 1797, the King's head duty mark was struck twice (between July 1707 and end August 1798) in York, Birmingham, Sheffield and Newcastle. This was a temporary measure until new duty mark punches could be designed and made.
