Description
Translation provided by Youdao
A month duration weight-driven timepiece movement, unsigned, first half of the 18th century The substantial seven pillar single train movement with five wheel train incorporating large diameter barrel, noticeably thick greatwheel and second wheel pinion, and anchor escapement for regulation by a seconds pendulum, the plates 19cm (7.5ins) by 12.8cm (5ins). The current lot is of particularly heavy construction. The large diameter barrel suggests that it may have been designed for use in a case where limited weight-drop was an issue; this would also account for the five wheel ‘month’ train. With this in mind it is perhaps appropriate to speculate that the current movement was perhaps destined for use in a wall timepiece or ‘tavern’ clock.
