A George II silver straight-tapered coffee pot by Richard Gurney & Co., London 1745, with a turned finial to the ogee domed cover, a fruitwood double scroll handle, a leaf-capped moulded spout, on a tuck-in base, engraved with an armorial, 22.5cm (8 3/4in) high, 615g (19.75 oz) gross The sinister arms can be identified as granted in 1745 to William PERCIVAL of Newport Pagnell, Bucks who was married in 1690 to Elizabeth BUCK. They had five children and of these four were ladies: Elizabeth (born 1796), Hannah (born 1701) and Martha (born 1705). In the will of their only brother Edward (died 1763) is identified his sister POTTER. The arms above result from the, to date, unidentified marriage of POTTER and PERCIVAL.
