Pages toned, thumbsoiled.Under the header "National Legislature" on page 2, column 3, the paper reports Washington's words just before he is sworn in for a second time: "Fellow-Citizens, I am again called upon by the voice of my country, to execute the functions of its Chief Magistrate. When the occasion proper for it shall arrive, I shall endeavour to express the high sense I entertain of this distinguished honour, and of the confidence which has been reposed in me, by the people of United America...." After taking the oath, the paper says, "the President retired, as he had come, without pomp or ceremony; but on his departure from the house, the people could no longer refrain obeying the genuine dictates of their hearts, and they saluted him with three cheers."
