Column 1 announces a convention at Newport for the National Women's Suffrage Association (of which Stanton is president) and a New York State Teacher's Convention. In an article responding to criticism of the suffrage movement as "unnatural," the author (likely Stanton) argues that suffrage is as inevitable as the telegraph across the ocean or the Pacific railway.Classified ads at the end list a great deal of businesses run by women, including public speakers, homeopathists, like-minded journals, piano dealers, engravers, and doctors.
