砚作长方敞池样，砚面开阔光素无纹，背浅覆手，内镌刻奕古山房左田诗句铭文，其笔意率真，刀法犀利流畅。端溪水岩佳石，细腻温润。此器气息澄净，风格儒雅端庄。【铭文印记】铭文详见本场拍卖之拓片文本【黄钺】字左田，当涂人。清进士，官司至礼部尚书、军机大臣、户部尚书，诗书画自成一体。谥号“勤敏”，以彰其勤政敏学。黄钺曾致力于书院与管理，创建芜湖中江书院，主管徽州紫阳书院、皖西六安书院、安庆敬敷书院，为安徽教育史上重要人物之一。
