A WANLI MARK & PERIOD WUCAI JARChina, 1572-1620. The barrel-shaped jar with three mythical beasts above cresting waves. The six-character mark is horizontally painted in cobalt blue under the glaze, located just below the lip.Provenance: From an Austrian private collection. Acquired from the heirs of an important German collector who acquired most of his collection in China between 1910 and 1930.Condition: Significant wear and scratches to glaze. Several star-shaped cracks. Still in presentable original condition, especially given the age of this piece.Weight: 565.5 grams.Dimensions: Diameter 13 cm.The vessel is decorated in iron red and green enamels above the glaze and deep cobalt-blue thereunder. It rests on three mythical heads covered in iron red.
