A SMALL JAPANESE CLOISONNE ENAMEL INCENSE BURNER AND COVER IN THE STYLE OF HAYASHI HACHIZAEMON, KORO MEIJI 1868-1912 The bulbous body raised on three short feet, decorated with three pentalobed panels containing birds and flowering branches, on a russet ground inlaid with a multitude of wires applied in tight spirals, the lid with two cloisonné butterflies on a similar ground, unsigned, 8.5cm. (2) Provenance: the collection of an English gentleman, acquired from Spink. Cf. F T Schneider, The Art of Japanese Cloisonné Enamel, p.C-30 fig.120, for a small vase by Hayashi Hachizaemon featuring a comparable decoration of raised enamels above a ground of spirals on a copper body.
