封经板木雕可称为西藏木雕精品。8 世纪以来，随着西藏第一座佛教寺院的建立，藏文规范化，佛教经典的翻译规模也随之扩大，刻写经书的工匠相对职业化，许多珍贵的经书都用纯金粉抄写在晕染成藏蓝色的长方形皮纸上，一本经书刻印完毕，封面封底还需用两块木板上下夹牢，再用细软的牛皮绳与铜扣系紧，才算完成。这些封经木板上都刻有精美的图像，成为西藏木雕中独具特色的雕塑种类。
