Property of a lady - a late 19th / early 20th century Chinese embroidered cream silk shawl, 51.2 by 49.2ins. (130 by 125cms.) (excluding border & fringe). Provenance - by repute General Sir Robert John Hay KCB (1828-1910), Colonel Commandant of the Royal Artillery, who served as Assistant Adjutant General of Artillery in China at the end of the Second Opium War, and was present at Sinho, Tangku, the capture of Tahu Forts and the surrender of Pekin in 1860, and thence by family descent to the present vendor.
