1st-2nd century AD. A bronze figure of Venus standing nude with braided hair held in her raised left hand, right hand thrust forward with palm open to accept a patera offering dish; mounted on a custom-made stand with old collector's label. 113 grams total, 11cm including stand (4 1/4"). From the Wilkinson collection, Nottinghamshire, formed since 1985; acquired from Ancient and Oriental Antiquities, in the 1990s; identified by Dr Paul Roberts at the British Museum in 2006; accompanied by a collection ticket.
