A silver crossbow brooch of early type with lemon-shaped lug above the round-section crossbar, facetted bow with filigree coils to the lower end, D-section footplate with lateral chamfers, hinged pin behind the crossbar. Cf. Hattatt, R. Brooches of Antiquity, Oxford, 1987, item 1260. 14 grams, 61mm (2 1/4"). From the Wilkinson collection, Nottinghamshire, formed since 1985; previously acquired from Spinks, Shambles, York, circa 2010; formerly in an old English collection.
