Late 3rd-1st millennium BC. A mixed group of ten bronze seal matrices with various shapes and designs including eight accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: (U-310) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 13 x 13 x 22mm. This has a square, flat face, and vertical short sides on which the back rises to a stalk handle with pierced loop. The design consists of a swastika with curving arms. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2100-1800 B.C. It is in fair condition, though the outer rim is worn down. The design is fully clear.'; (T-853) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 19 x 20 x 17mm. This bears the shape of the design, with flat compartmented face and flat back, on which is mounted a stalk handle with round loop on the top. The design consists of three 'petals' around a central small circle. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. There is a little incrustation on the surface, which could be removed, but generally it is in good condition.'; (D-34) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 12.5 x 14 x 14mm. This has a flat, originally round face, and the back rises to an oval, pierced handle. The design on the face shows an ambivalent depiction, perhaps a human face. A dotted motif on the back. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2000-1500 B.C. The object generally is in very good condition, but the design is a little damaged.'; (W-100) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 12 x 11 x 52mm. This has an oblong, slightly convex face, and a pillar back of considerable height, partly ridged, partly plain, first of decreasing diameter, then slightly increasing in diameter to the suspension hole, above which it seems to be a stylized horse head. The seal design is a criss-cross of lines. This comes from west central Asia and is difficult to date with certainty since it is so rare, but probably c. 1300-800 B.C. is right. There is some white incrustation on the surface, but the piece is in good condition.'; (U-209) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 15 x 15 x 32mm. This has a flat round face with design done in raised lines within an outer rim. The back is also flat, and on it is mounted a tall stalk handle surrounded by three broad ridges and with a loop handle on top. The design consists of a semi-circle with straight stroke entering it from the rim. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. The handle is unusual for its length and shape. The seal is a little worn and there is incrustation on the surface, but it is generally in fair condition.'; (T-450) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 12 x 12 x 27mm. This has a round face, originally flat, and a back which rises steeply to a stalk handle on top of which is a loop. The design on the face consists of a simple cross and two filling blobs which give the impression of a six-pointed star. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. The edges of the face are worn down, but the condition is generally fair.'; (T-745) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 21 x 14 x 29.5mm. This had a flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a big stalk handle ending in a round loop. The design was compartmented with circle in the middle and shapes around. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2200-1800 B.C. Most of the design is lost, but one can see that it was one with a circle in the middle, perhaps the middle of a bird or animal, of which one leg remains. What has survived is in good condition.'; (R-779) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 19.5 x 18.5 x 20mm. This has a round flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a stalk handle with round pierced top, The design consists of a central circle with dot in it, and six crescents based on the edge. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2100-1800 B.C. The metal and the whole object is in good condition.' 107 grams total, 15-53mm (1/2-2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection numbers T-745, T-450, U-209, W-100, D-34, T-853, R-779, Y-923, U-299, U-310 academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
