4th-2nd century BC. Group of carved stone amulets, all with copies of typed and signed scholarly notes by the late W. G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993 and accompanied by museum quality impressions comprising: Syria (3), with notes: 'Amulet of brown stone, 10 x 16 x 15mm. Amulet in the form of a human head, cut off at the back, with features clearly marked and decoration on the top. Pierced for suspension. Syria, c. 300 B.C.'; 'Amulet of chalcedony, 34 x 18 x 17mm. A piece of stone recut to form a fish, with suspension loop. The shape and eye are naturalistic, crosses on the opposite side come from the original function. Syria, c. 300-100 B.C. and 'Amulet of lapis, 12 x 22 x 19mm. A broken piece, re-used and one side trimmed and marked as a human bearded face. Syria, c. 300-100 B.C.' 25 grams total, 16-34mm (1/2 - 1 1/4"). From a private collection of seals and amulets, the property of a Canadian gentleman living in London; from his father's collection formed in the late 1960s to 1980s; inventory number 136,138 & 139.
