A carved limestone Early Dynastic II cylinder seal from North Syria; walking to the right an animal headed man with broad naked torso and a knee-length pleated or slit skirt; his right arm hangs stretched from the side, with his left hand he holds the head of a caprid on its right horn up; on the left an ibex, on the right a lion with bird's beak; accompanied by a museum-quality impression. 11.28 grams, 28mm (1"). From a private collection of seals and amulets, the property of a Canadian gentleman living in London; from his father's collection formed in the late 1960s to 1980s.
