Matthew N Noble (1817-1876), a bust of the Reverend John Hodgson, marble, inscribed `Reverend John Hodgson' on the reverse, with another inscription on the socle and signed 'M.N. Noble Sc, London, 1870', 77cm high Noble was a leading British portrait sculptor.and carver of numerous monumental figures and busts, including work memorialising Victorian era royalty and statesmen displayed in locations such as Westminster Abbey and St. Paul's Cathedral. His figure of Sir Robert Peel stands in Parliament Square, London. Provenance: The Property of a Prominent West Country Collector.
