Italian, possibly 16th century. Oil on canvas, housed in a carved, painted and gilt frame; 23.5 x 18.5 in. (sight), 34.25 x 29.25 in. (frame).Titian is known to have painted this scene twice. Another Titian, from the same collection, was sold at auction at Parke-Bernet in 1945.Provenance: From the property of the Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, Richmond, Indiana;Ex Collection of Robert W. Lyons, son of Dr. Samuel R. Lyons, pastor of the Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church from 1901 to 1915, and donated to the church in 1944;Acquired from Newhouse Gallery, N. Y.
