A RASHT HANGING Caspian region, Iran, late 19th century The red face cloth wool intricately chain-stitched in polychrome silks and appliqued motifs with a large lobed central cartouche embellished with tendrils and butis, within a floral border, the outer border with alternating butis and floral posies linked by a sinuous gold band in a key design, lined in cream damask cotton, 180.5cm x 130.5cm. It is interesting to note the increasing influence of Russian design and colours in the products of the Caspian region.
