Emil Schanche (1861-1966), Norwegian painter, who worked as a fisherman in Lofoten and as a self-taught appropriated the painting, before he went to Christiana at 50 years to study at the Academy there. Christian Krogh recognized his talent and encouraged him to the best of his ability. Back at his native farm, he remained associated with painting and at the age of 81 had his first and most successful exhibition in Trondheim.
