盞敞口，弧腹深底，圈足。通體施黑釉，外壁釉不及底，有明顯垂釉，露褐色胎。碗口呈醬色，口下漸為褐、黑相間，近心處純黑色。全器釉色變化豐富，黑釉中顯露棕黃色調的毫狀流紋，形如兔毫，為此建窯著名「黑釉兔毫盞」。建窯是宋代著名黑釉瓷窯之一，窯址位於今福建建陽縣水吉鎮。宋人喜愛建窯茶盞，留下眾多詩文，如徽宗《大觀茶論》：「盞色貴青黑，玉毫條達者為上，取其煥發茶采色也」；北宋黃庭堅：「兔褐金絲寶盌，松風蟹眼新湯」；南宋陸游：「墨試小螺看鬥硯，茶分細乳翫毫杯」，反映宋人崇尚天真自然的美學觀。
