Early 1st century AD. A large carinated bronze terret from a chariot, with lobed flanges and upturned knopped crescents, columnar shank and flange. Cf. example from Ingolstadt, Germany, in Megaw, R.& V. Celtic Art. From its Beginnings to the Book of Kells, London, 1989, item 225. 316 grams, 13.5cm (5 1/4"). From the estate of the late Jennifer Simmonds; formerly with Jacobs & Hunt, Petersfield, Hampshire, UK; found in the late 19th century near Viables, Hampshire, UK.
