A silver bosun's whistle with curved pipe and repoussé anchors to the bulb, dorsal flange marked 'Lawrence' and graffito stave with notes, to the reverse 'Made in England' and graffito initials 'GL'; attached to rear a makeshift 'medal' (from the lid of a tin?) hand-painted with a white bucket on a green field, a red OXO cube pack both above a blue and white panel for the sea, to the reverse a typed label '13 mess / medal / H.M.S. 'HAMBLEDON' / 'GOBSTICK' LAWRENCE. / C/JX. 229718. / 3 YRS 2MTHS'. 28 grams total, whistle: 95mm (3 3/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired in the 1970s. HMS Hambledon was an escort destroyer in commission from 1940 to 1945 which saw service during World War II.
