Obv: with COMMEMORATION / OF THE / EXTINCTION / OF / COLONIAL SLAVERY / THROUGHOUT THE / BRITISH DOMINIONS / IN THE REIGN OF / WILLIAM THE IV / AUGT 1 1834 in ten lines; with DAVIS BIRM below. Rev: standing kilted African holding broken chains high in landscape setting with rays behind and THIS IS THE LORDS DOING; IT IS MARVELLOUS IN OUR EYES. PSALM II8 V.23 inscription; JUBILEE AUGT 1 / 1834 in two lines in exergue. BHM 1665; Cf. BCM 1275 for similar type. 27.18 grams, 43mm. Property of a Kent, UK collector; acquired on the UK coin market. The date 1st August 1834 was chosen for the emancipation of slaves in almost all of the British colonies.
