3rd millennium BC. A mixed group of ten bronze seals with various shapes and designs, including six accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: (T-833) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 25 x 26 x 8mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of inverted U-shape. The design, which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of a central Greek cross joined to a plain outer band by a strut from each tip of the ends of each arm. The outer band is divided into four quarters by short struts. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The outer rim is dented in places and worn, but otherwise this seal is in good condition.'; (T-710) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 29 x 27 x 13mm. This is a round disc with suspension loop on the back. The design on the face, in raised lines, consists of a simple cross and four pairs of two V-shapes filling the quarters so created. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. The edge is worn, but generally it is in good condition.'; (T-473) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 18 x 18 x 11mm. This is a square plaque with suspension loop of inverted V-shape on the back. The design on the flat face consists of a rim surrounding four small circles. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is now covered with incrustation which could be removed. The condition is very good.'; (U-490) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 20 x 19 x 9mm. This is a round disc with flat compartmented face and handle of inverted U-shape on the back. The design is a kind of rosette with 10 petals. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2100-1800 B.C. It is a little worn round the edges, but otherwise in good condition.'; (u-478) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 30 x 29.5 x 7mm. This is round with flat face and convex decorated back with suspension loop in the centre. The design on the face is a 'wheel' with six 'spokes' and holes in the spaces between the 'spokes'. The back has a rosette in the middle, concentric grooves around that (interrupted by the holes), and a twined band around the edge. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is a rare design and is in fair condition.'; (C-12) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 13 x 13.5 x 13.5mm. This is roughly round with a solid back and part of the pierced handle. the handle was made from a piece of metal rod, the end of which was flattened and pierced, but this thin tip is now broken off. The design consists of a small central circle from which six 'spokes' radiate to the edge, and between them are six U-shapes, with their two ends resting on the edge. The edge is serrated. This seal comes from west central Asia, and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. Save for the broken handle it is generally in good condition. 93 grams total, 18-41mm (3/4-1 1/2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection numbers U-490, T-473, T-710, T-833, U-478, C-12, R-753, T-758, W-185, U-285, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
