23rd-20th century BC. A mixed group of five bronze seals comprising: one discoid with swirling pattern, stem handle to the reverse, suspension hoop fragmented; one roughly triangular with guilloche knotwork design; and three accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: (R-750) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 39 x 41 x 9mm. This has the shape of a seven-pointed star marked on the convex back as if seven petals around the central loop handle. The face is flat and has a design engraved into it. The interpretation of the design is not completely sure, but it seems to involve an eagle, perhaps carrying off prey. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is a rare type and the design is fascinating. The metal has been conserved and the piece is in very good condition.'; (T-22) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 29 x 25 x 5mm. This has the shape of what is depicted, with flat compartmented face and flat back, on which is mounted a handle of sheet metal. The design is diffidcult to interpret, but probably it is a highly stylized presentation of a standing stag. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is a rare design, and in good condition save for some wear to the outer edges.'; (K-61) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 25 x 29 x 9.5mm. This has a flat, compartmented but not open-work face, and a flat back on whcih a loop of strip metal is attached. The shape and the design are of a standing quadruped, not yet perhaps certainly identitfied. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. it is generally in very good condition, only the outer upper edge is a little dented. It is a rare design.' 81 grams total, 27-35mm (1-1 1/2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection numbers K-61, T-22,, R-750, R-755, W-354, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
