Lot of 2. Moore, Andrew B. (1807-1873). Governor of Alabama (1857-1861). ALS "A.B. Moore," 1p, 7.75 x 9.75 in., "Montgomery, Ala." March 13, 1861. Addressed to CSA Secretary of War Leroy P. Walker (1817-1884), concerning the dispatch of troops to Fort Morgan and Pensacola, FL. Moore apologizes for the delay of his response, noting that it is a "consequence of the necessity of some action on the part of the state convention," likely a reference to the convention of delegates from the six seceded states in Montgomery to establish the Confederate States of America and elect Jefferson Davis as its president, held in February 1861. The convention has, however, given Moore "full authority to comply with [Walker's] requisition to furnish one thousand troops at Fort Morgan and one thousand at Pensacola." He assures Walker that "active steps are now being taken to complete the organization of theses troops at the Earliest possible day, when they will be transferred to the government of the Confederate States." Written on "Executive Department" letterhead. Also with a manuscript document of recommendation for Moore as Clerk of Alabama's Supreme Court, 1p, 8 x 9.75 in., "Shelby County." July 27, 1847. Addressed to Governor Henry W. Collier (1801-1855) and signed by members of the Shelby County Bar Association, including John M. McClanahan (ca 1810-1867). Â
