：笔筒为圆筒形，黄花梨木质，呈深褐色，木质坚实细密，纹理或隐或现，极具质感，抚之滑腻，若婴儿之肌肤，手感颇佳。黄花梨因其质地细腻，色泽沉静，纹理变化多样，备受世人喜爱。文人与工匠在利用黄花梨木来制作木器的时候，常不饰雕刻，以光素的为多，以突出木材纹理的自然美。此件笔筒反其道而行之，雕刻书画内容，书法遒劲有力，颇见功力，字里画间原木纹理亦一览无遗，相互衬托，相得益彰，极具特色，于素雅中透显出文雅之气。若置于文房案上，颇为清雅实用，尽显文房雅趣。胡长庚，号城东居士，安徽歙县人。深于篆学，自秦、汉而下至程邃，无不逼肖入微。
