Third Intermediate Period, 1069-702 BC. A carved wooden spoon with carved handle formed as a rope ring above two papyrus leaves and a triangular cell, heart-shaped cell below. See Taylor, J.H. Death and the Afterlife in Ancient Egypt, London, 2001, p.192-3 for details of the offering ritual for the dead. 40.2 grams, 15cm (6"). Acquired by the current owner in 2000 from Mrs C.W. an old French private collection formed since the early 1980s.
