A bronze child's crossbow military fibula of Keller type 3, with elongated diagonal section, short facets on the front and long facets on the back, broad onion-shaped knobs, bow shorter than the foot. See Mackreth, D.F., Brooches in Late Iron Age and Roman Britain 2 volumes, Exeter, 2011, fig. 11888, pl. 139 p. 142. 15.1 grams, 48mm (2"). Property of a London lady; from her family collection formed in the 1970s. Type of crossbow fibula usually employed in Roman army since the end of the third century until the 6th century AD, and also fitted in miniature specimens to the sons (like our specimen) of the soldiers.
