A rectangular wooden tablet in three parts with vertical mounting slots to the reverse, holes for suspension; six lines of cursive Greek script in a dark brown ink to one side; possibly from Late Roman Egypt. 279 grams total, 25.5-30.5cm (10 - 12"). From the Surain family collection, Belgium; formerly the property of Monsieur Alain Sfez, a Belgian collector; acquired by gift from his father Albert Sfez, 1965; acquired by Albert in the early 1950s; accompanied by eight old photographs and a copy of a provenance declaration by Alain Claude Sfez.
