Description
Translation provided by Youdao
2nd-3rd century AD. A bronze statuette depicting a naked winged Cupid in a dynamic pose, right arm extended, left arm against the body, legs apart, with the right leg extended in the dynamic movement and the left leg standing over a high pedestal, a dove or a torch might originally have been held in his hands; head features with enough well-sculpted facial details and straggly hair covering his ears, a top-knot sits at the top of his head at the end of a pair of braids, possibly the statuette might have formed part of a larger group, probably centred around a statuette of Venus. See for similar specimens Stead, I., 'Excavations at Winterton Roman Villa and other Roman Sites in North Lincolnshire. Department of the Environment Archaeological Reports 9' in HMSO, 1976. 48 grams, 78mm (3"). Property of a South London collector; acquired before 1980.
