A gilt-bronze figure of Buddha sitting cross-legged on a tiered base with lotus detailing and tongue-shaped plaque to the forward face, two attachment loops to the reverse, traces of red pigment; Buddha shown with right hand resting on his knee, fingertips touching the earth (Bhumisparsha mudra); the face serene with wide eyes, ushnisha surmounted by a tiered conical flame. 2.9 kg, 32.7cm (13"). Property of an East Sussex gentleman; from his private collection formed between 1983 and 1990; formerly in a South East London collection formed in the 1970s.
