A French gilt brass and onyx mantel clock in the Louis XVI taste, unsigned, late 19th century, the eight-day circular two train countwheel bell striking movement with anchor escapement regulated by disc bob pendulum incorporating Brocot type regulation to suspension, the backplate stamped with numbers 159, 5 8, the rectangular onyx panel dial with gilt Roman numerals, steel spade hands and foliate scroll cast mounts to spandrel areas within a repeating acanthus leaf surround, the case with twin handled footed vase surmount issuing a floral spray over concave panel inset hipped top and generous leaf and bead cast cavetto cornice, the sides with plain panels matching the dial and the rear with hinged circular fretwork cover, on conforming gilt tied foliate spray decorated recessed onyx panel inset skirt base applied with festoon decorated side scrolls and on outswept scroll feet, 42cm (16.5ins) high.
