Late 3rd-early 2nd millennium BC. A mixed group of five bronze seals comprising: two accompanied by typed and signed notes by the late W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which state: (U-344) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 61 x 61 x 24mm. This is round, with compartmented, open-work style design, and with handle of inverted V-shape mounted on the back. The design consists of two concentric circles in the middle joined to a plain outer rim by rows of 'petals' creating the impression of a rosette. There are 12 immediately around the circles, another 12 less regularly placed between the tips of the first 12, and the tips of these reach the rim. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is an unusually large seal and in fair condition save for the lack of one small segment of the rim. There is incrustation on the surface, which could be removed.'; (V-846) 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 57 x 55 x 17.5mm. The face and back are flat, and there is a loop handle in the middle of the back. the design is a rosette with seven petals within an outer rim, and the gaps between the ends of the petals are filled with open-W-shapes. The design on the face is repeated on the back in raised double lines. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is rare for the repeated design on the back, and though the outer rim is dented, otherwise the piece is in good condition.'; one discoid with central rosette formed with six pointed petals between which extend six bulbs, enclosed within a scalloped edge, inverted V-shape handle to the reverse; one discoid with central horned quadruped, inverted U-shape handle to the reverse; one of roughly discoid shape with oblong to the centre filled with circle within an angled shape, to each side a stepped triangle, strap handle to the reverse. 274 grams, 49-66mm (2-2 1/2"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; collection numbers V-846, U-128, U-344, X-905, Z-131, academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s.
